Writing an Artist's Statement    Kay Brathol-Hostvet

Whether you do or don't like to write or talk about your work won't change the fact that it is usually a required document when applying for shows, grants, or for gallery representation. A well-written artist's statement can help the general public better understand your processes, intent, or themes. It can also help a gallery director sell your work by giving them a tool to explain it to a potential buyer. Learn how to write a clear, concise statement. Bring a notebook and pencil; you'll be writing about your real or imagined works. For a complete portfolio experience, consider taking the afternoon seminar, too.  Sun   Nov 10, 10 - noon  $35 or both for $80

Box Making: Clam Shell Box / Drop Spine Box  Jackie Hefty

Make a drop spine box in two short classes. Based on using a conventional size of 8 1/2 x 11", we will create a housing for papers, books, jewelry and/or treasures. Adjustments for various sizes will be discussed for individualized future projects. A good metal ruler, a sharp utility knife, a cutting matt and a clear head will be most important.  Participants will have the opportunity to customize the covers with commercially available materials or personalized, hand decorated options. Terrific gift for someone special!  Tues Nov 12/19 1-4  $80/$20 materials

Color Mixing in Acrylics

Learn to Mix Colors in Acrylic  Kay Brathol-Hostvet

Learning to mix colors is one of the most daunting and frustrating experiences that painters face. How many times have you been unable to make a particular color or have you wasted lots of paint in the process? Knowing a few basics about paint composition, color temperature and color theory helps immensely. This is strictly a hands-on workshop for those who have previous painting experience. What you learn working with acrylic transfers to other painting mediums, but acrylic is required for this workshop.  Sat Nov 16  1-5  $ 65
