Pastel Interpretations
Kay Brathol-Hostvet
Soft pastel is a very adaptable medium and perfect for learning different
painting techniques. We'll do three or four different interpretations from the same reference photo. Each work in your
series will be quite unlike the others; you will be using different papers and styles of application, learning which styles
and techniques work best for you. A repeatable workshop for beginner to advanced levels; beginners to the soft pastel medium
should have reasonably good drawing skills. Sat, Nov

Paired Needle Binding Jackie Hefty
It just
sounds difficult, not really so hard, but it gives you bragging rights! You will be sure to impress your friends and family
with your bookmaking skills when you show them this creation. An exposed stitching design on the spine of the book resembles
a herringbone pattern. This book is designed to lie flat when open which allows for ease in drawing or writing. Makes
a great gift! Recommended for those
who have some basic bookmaking and sewing experience, but not required. Minimal supplies
are necessary to continue making these beautiful books at home. All materials needed are included but suggestions for
personal embellishments are provided in the supply list. Sat, Nov 19, 1-4:30 $65/$5 materials

needles or sewing either! One sheet of paper can become a book with the correct folding, creasing and cutting. (Think paper

Bring some decorative papers if you'd like, we will also make a few of our own to use for the books. Appropriate
for an adult and child intergenerational experience. All supplies provided, and minimal supplies necessary
to continue at home. Sun,
Nov 20, 1 - 4:30 $55/$10 materials (Adult, 16 and older), $45/$10 materials (Youth, younger than
16)
Wishing you and yours
a healthy, happy and safe

Relief printing block |
Block Printing Cards Jackie Hefty
An
age old process, still popular today. Great opportunity to make New Year's or other Holiday Cards or gifts. Similar to rubber
stamps, create a small soft cut or linoleum printing block and explore some alternatives using common household items, found
objects, blocks of wood, recycling and more. Printing blocks may be an abstract design or personal image. You can cut, glue,
tape, and/or carve textures and designs. Printing will be done with water-based ink, and you will be able to print multiple
copies.
Tues Nov 29 and Dec 6, noon - 4 $105/$10

Just a little note:
Many of the classes I personally offer are meant to provide a progression
in the inter-related book arts opportunities. It is not necessary to take them in any specific order, but understand
they are complimentary in nature. By taking a decorative paper workshop, you may utilize your work
in a book structure as text pages, end sheets or as a cover. Likewise, by taking papermaking you may use the results in a
book or as a substrate for a print, drawing, painting, or with letterpress.
Think of them as part of, or a means to an end, not the end in themselves. (not that many can not stand alone and be
appreciated as completed work) It is also for this reason I repeat some foundational workshops more often. Understanding the
method to my madness may be helpful when making workshop choices.
