Coiled Pine Needle Basket   Roberta Condon

Nature provides the raw materials for this charming basket design. How appropriate for the Whispering Woodlands setting. Participants need only bring minimal supplies, scissors and a needle nose pliers.  All other materials needed are included to make your small coiled pine needle basket. Resources to continue on your own are provided. Intermediate students will be given materials and instruction on a more complex vessel.  Fri March 4,  10 - 4:30   $105/$20 materials

Pochoir Stencils (French Stencil technique)  Jackie Hefty

Pochoir stencils may find their way as book images, decorative paper designs, scrapbooking and/or greeting cards.  A terrific alternative to screen printing and a great way to utilize some less expensive pastels. Simplified images and designs work best as you learn the basics. A good cutting matt and x-acto knife will be necessary. Minimal supply list.   Sat March 12  1-4:30 $55/$5 materials

Non-Adhesive Books Jackie Hefty

No needles or sewing either! One sheet of paper can become a book with the correct folding, creasing and cutting. (Think paper dolls.) We will explore the possibilities of meandering books, accordion books with folded paper covers and a pocket accordion. Bring some decorative papers if you'd like, we will also make a few of our own to use for the books.  Sat March 19, 1 - 5  $60/$5 materials

Just a little note:

Many of the classes I personally offer are meant to provide a progression in the inter-related book arts opportunities. It is not necessary to take them in any specific order, but understand they are complimentary in nature. By taking a decorative paper workshop, you may utilize your work in a book structure as text pages, end sheets or as a cover. Likewise, by taking papermaking you may use the results in a book or as a substrate for a print, drawing, painting, or with letterpress.   Think of them as part of, or a means to an end, not the end in themselves. (not that many can not stand alone and be appreciated as completed work) It is also for this reason I repeat some foundational workshops more often. Understanding the method to my madness may be helpful when making workshop choices.
