Making: Clam Shell Box / Drop Spine Box Jackie
Hefty
Asked for by members of several bookmaking
workshops, here it is, a workshop to make a drop spine box. Based on using a conventional size of 8 1/2 x 11", we will
create a housing for papers, books and treasures. Adjustments for various sizes will be discussed for individualized future
projects. A good metal ruler, a sharp utility knife, a cutting matt and a clear head will be most important. Participants
will have the opportunity to customize the covers with commercially available materials or personalized, hand decorated options. Fri Oct 3 and Fri Oct 10 1- 4 $105/$20

Book Structures: Paired Needle Binding Jackie Hefty
It just sounds difficult, not really so hard, but it gives you
bragging rights! You will be sure to impress your friends or family with your bookmaking skills when you show them this creation.
An exposed stitching design on the spine of the book resembles a herringbone pattern. This book is designed to lie flat
when open which allows for ease in drawing or writing. Makes a great gift! Previous book making is recommended, but not required.
Minimal supplies are necessary to continue making beautiful books at home. Class sizes are limited. Sat
Oct 4, 1 - 4:30 $65/$5 materials (Papers will be available for
purchase if you need for your signatures, see supply list for more information.)

Printmaking Collagraphs: Intro to Mixed Media Printmaking
Jackie
Hefty
Members from the Aug class are continuing
work during this afternoon. If you missed out and want to join us and 'test' the process out we'd be happy to have you.
Collagraphs incorporate aspects of relief and intaglio printmaking, additive and subtractive methods of working, all in an
intriguing mixed media approach to plate-making. Think texture printing; using everyday objects (cardboard, lace, washers,
yarn) transformed into textural elements enhancing your unique prints. Take an individualized approach in what can be either
objective or non-objective subject matter. Thurs Oct 9 1 - 4:30 $55/$5

Color Strategies Kay Brathol-Hostvet
Color is the most familiar element of design-and the most complex. Understanding basic color theory
goes a long way in making you a better designer and artist, whether you want to paint a canvas or decorate a room, design
your own quilts or plan your garden for the most visual impact. Lecture, handouts, and hands-on projects will help you become
more fluent in the language of color and more confident in the application of color to your designs. A supply list will be
sent to you; many materials provided. Sat Oct 11, 10 - 4 $100/$5 materials

Snappy Scrappy Jackie
Hefty
Feeling
a little sassy? Join us for a 'breaking the rules' fabric collage playful day. We will be raiding the fabric stash,
using a variety of quilting and upholstery remnants to create what we affectionately call "Snappy Scrappy". Layers,
textures, lace, ribbon, and jewelry, buttons, or beads combine to become your individualized Snappy Scrappy. Hand
or machine stitch your choice pieces into a wall hanging, book cover or fabric frame for a photo. We will have
a few 'simple' sewing machines available, yarns and thread, an assortment of pre-fringed upholstery fabrics (thanks Mom!)
and background canvas for you, along with buttons, beads and other trinkets. You are encouraged to bring any materials
you wish to use and/or share. (Clean out your stash, well within reason...) It isn't necessary to have a quilting or
fiber arts background, having a sense of color combinations and design will be helpful. A playful attitude is greatly desired.

Still (in) Life
Brenna Hopkins
Your home, collections, and family heirlooms can inspire your creativity, tell your story and preserve family history.
Learn to use beautiful indoor daylight to create still-life images with your digital camera. If you have never taken
your camera off "AUTO," still-life photography is the perfect way to understand how to improve the pictures you
are taking. If you are an experienced photographer, you'll explore ways to see your day to day world as a resource for
your creativity. We will learn the best lighting locations in any indoor setting, and simple approaches to making
the most of the light (and the camera) you have. A journal or notebook is recommended to record camera settings and written impressions
of your experiences. Supplies: Requires a digital camera or phone with enough free
memory to take 100 images. Bring your card reader or the cable you use to download pictures from your camera or phone
so you can see your images. A laptop is recommended for viewing your images - I will bring mine, but please bring yours if
you have one. If you have a tripod, bring it! Sat Oct 25 1 - 5
